29 May: Depart from JFK; change planes in Amsterdam

30 May: Arrive JRO 8:20 PM. Travel to host location (Usa-River), dinner, and short program with Bega Kwa Bega

31 May: All Day visit to Dakika: Women’s Beekeeping & Herbal Medicine Collectives in the Kikatiti area; evening Swahili classes

1 June: AM -Visit Chawakua (HIV/AIDS Education Organization) for workshop; PM- Visit WODSTA (Women’s Development for Science & Technology Association) offices for tour and workshop & Aang Serian; evening Swahili classes

2 June: WaMeru Day: Mt. Meru waterfalls & hike, picnic lunch, Wameru discussion with community; evening Swahili classes.

3 June: AM- visit community clinics & dispensaries (deliver supplies); Arusha Town? PM- visit Lake Duluti; evening Swahili classes

4 June: Visit Bega Kwa Bega, tour, Mangusha rainforest walk, picnic lunch, & community tree planting; evening Swahili classes

5 June: AM – visit Furam Nshupu Secondary School for discussion “Impacts of Globalization on the Environment,” PM – UAACC; evening Youth Forum

6 June: Ngoma Workshop & Performance with African Traditional Dance Group (ATDG). Morning ngoma workshop where we will learn some of the traditional dances and music of Tanzania lead by members of ATDG (rated #1 in both 2004 and 2005). Afternoon performance by ATDG including dance, drumming, community theater, etc. PLUS Penn State will perform what you learned in the morning workshop in front of the community!; evening service learning workshop

7 June: AM- Village host & Traditional Foods Day; PM- MWDEO (Maasai Women’s Development Organization) workshop

8 June: Depart for Maasai community with Chaca of Aang Serian, tour, lunch, preparations for building project

9 June: Maasai women’s shop building project

10 June: Finish Maasai building project; depart for Arusha

11- 15 June: Work at Service Sites – Bega Kwa Bega, UAACC, Mt. Meru Peak School, MWDEO full day; evening programs

16 June: Bega Kwa Bega Environment Festival – All day!

17 June: Good Hope Orphanage Community Service Day – All day!

18 – 22 June: Work at Service Sites – Bega Kwa Bega, UAACC, Mt. Meru Peak School, MWDEO full day; evening programs

23 June: Arusha National Park safari (full day with picnic lunch); evening camping in Mt. Meru

24 June: Breakfast & hike in Mt. Meru land; return to UAACC; evening program

25 June: Free day; depart for US at 8:55 PM from JRO

26 June: Arrive at JFK

Summer 2006 Trip Itinerary:

June 7: Arrival of group; dinner and rest!

June 8: Visit classrooms; Mangusha Forest walk through village or snake farm. Evening Youth Forum after dinner morning visit to DAKIKA women's project in town of Kikatiti for an opportunity to learn about their neem tree and herbal medicine project and visit to their bee keeping farm.

June 9: Waterfall and town visit.

June 10: Ngoma workshop and ngoma performance. Morning ngoma workshop where you will learn some of the traditional dances and music of Tanzania lead by members of the African Traditional Dance Group (ATDG) rated #1 in both 2004 and 2005. Afternoon performance by ATDG including dance, drumming, community theater, etc. PLUS Penn State will perform what you learned in the morning workshop in front of the community! Also, we request that you come up with an additional performance representative of your country's culture (previous groups have given performances as diverse as hip hop, hokey pokey, step dancing and square dancing, to name a few examples!)

June 11: Village hosts activities and traditional foods day visit to village homes; church and/or other morning activities with families in village traditional Tanzanian lunch party with village families (at UAACC) talk about WaMeru culture and history from village elder Khanga history workshop and demonstrations of head wraps and ways to use khanga. Evening Maasai beading workshop.

June 12 Depart for Maasai village.

June 13-17: Wildlife safari to Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti. Returning to UAACC the evening of June 17.

June 18: Women's Conference Lunch.

June 19: Kili Day Hike.

June 20: Art Day (art activities including Batik workshop) with UAACC art students.

June 21: Tribunal, sites of interest and shopping (lunch in town) - Arusha.

June 22: Imbaseni Primary School and Dakika Women's project: Natural Medicinal Healing & Bee Keeping.

June 23: Participation in Friday assembly with students at UAACC. Talent show

June 24: Free day.

June 25: Combined Farewell party with Stonybrook U students.

June 26: Free day and evening departure for airport.
